Description

Description: The herbs and olive loaf combines fresh or dried herbs like rosemary, thyme, and oregano with briny olives to create a bread that bursts with Mediterranean flavors. The loaf is often enriched with olive oil, which adds to its moist texture and enhances its aromatic qualities. This bread can be served warm or at room temperature, and it pairs wonderfully with a variety of dishes or as a standalone snack.
Ingredients:
Bread flour or all-purpose flour
Warm water
Active dry yeast
Sugar
Salt
Olive oil
Mixed herbs (such as rosemary, thyme, oregano – fresh or dried)
Pitted olives (green, black, or a mix), chopped
Optional: garlic cloves, minced
Preparation:
Prepare the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water with sugar and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
Add bread flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a rough dough forms.
Add Herbs and Olives:
Incorporate the mixed herbs and chopped olives into the dough. If using garlic, add it at this stage as well. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
First Rise:
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
Shape the Loaf:
Punch down the dough to release the air. Turn it out onto a floured surface and shape it into a loaf or a round boule.
Place the shaped dough into a greased loaf pan or onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover it and let it rise again for about 30-45 minutes, or until it has risen appreciably.
Prepare for Baking:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Brush the top of the loaf with a little olive oil and, if desired, sprinkle additional herbs on top for garnish.
Bake:
Bake the loaf in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
If the top of the loaf browns too quickly, you can cover it with aluminum foil halfway through baking.
Cool and Serve:
Remove the loaf from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Herbs and olive loaf is a versatile bread that can enhance any meal with its rich, savory flavors. Whether served as a side to a main dish or as a tasty snack on its own, this loaf is sure to be a favorite for those who appreciate Mediterranean-inspired cuisine.
